Wreath-laying ceremony conducted

Assam Rifles on Saturday held a solemn wreath-laying ceremony in honour of naib subedar (late) Resham Bahadur Chhetri, who made the ultimate sacrifice during a search operation in Tuensang, Nagaland, on July 5, 2001.According to PRO IGAR (S), on that fateful day, at around 3 pm, Assam Rifles troops conducting a search operation in the challenging conditions of Chassir village, Tuensang, came under heavy fire from insurgents.
The troops swiftly retaliated and engaged the attackers with rifle and mortar fire.
During the intense exchange, naib subedar (General Duty) Resham Bahadur Chhetri sustained a gunshot wound.
Despite valiant efforts, the brave soldier succumbed to his injuries, laying down his life in the line of duty for the nation.
The commemorative ceremony commenced with the senior officials from the Assam Rifles laying a wreath and recounting the story of the brave-heart, while also urging all ranks to draw inspiration from his courage and to uphold the highest standards of pride and honour in service to the nation.
Around 80 personnel of Assam Rifles paid their respects to the fallen soldier, laying wreaths and presenting a guard of honour in a poignant tribute to his sacrifice, the PRO conveyed.
