Asem Bhakta elected AMWJU president

Imphal, May 02 2025:
Asem Bhakta Singh, who is photo-journalist of the Hyderabad Headlines, has been elected as the new president of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) for the 2025-27 term.
The election was conducted on Thursday at Manipur Press Club, here.
Bhakta secured 192 votes while his opponent Bijoy Kakchingtabam, associate editor, Poknapham daily, received 144 votes.
In the same election, eight journalists were elected to the AMWJU Standing Committee.
Certificates were handed over to the newly elected candidates by the Returning Officer of the election.
Impact TV reporter Elangbam Ojitkumar (Musuk) secured the highest number of votes with 229, followed by Imphal Times reporter Konthoujam Gita Devi (198), Thingbaijam Lakhikanta Singh of Paojel (190), Poknapham senior reporter Sonia Sorensangbam (158), Eikhoigi Panthung reporter Leimapokpam Shanjitkumar (Bhakta) Singh (157), Haobam Pravinkumar Singh of Ichel Express (156), ISTV News senior reporter Khwairakpam Naoba (155), and Kangleipakki Meira senior reporter Suraj Chanam received 136 votes.
