Students rally demanding resumption of normal classes

Students of Ningthoukhong Higher Secondary School held a rally today, demanding the immediate resumption of normal classes, which have been severely affected due to the ongoing pen-down strike called by the Lecturers' Association of Manipur (LAM) 2018 batch.
The strike, part of a broader agitation by educators, has severely impacted higher secondary students across the State.
The educators are demanding the release of pending salaries and implementation of regularization processes.
The rally, which commenced from the school campus, proceeded through Ningthoukhong bazar and Project Canal Bridge before culminating at the starting point.
Students of Class XII Arts of the school stated that the school has been facing an acute shortage of teachers due to the strike.
Nine teachers who have not been included in the Manipur Government Employee List (MGEL) are currently on strike, severely disrupting regular academic sessions.
The absence of these teachers has resulted in severe disruption of regular academic sessions, stated the students.
The students expressed concern over the possibility that their syllabus might not be completed in time, especially with board examinations drawing near.
The protesting students also raised slogans demanding a speedy resolution of the teachers" grievances and called on the Government to intervene swiftly to bring both sides to a resolution so that their normal classes could be restored.
