Imphal, July 18 2025:
The three members of parliament (MPs) from Manipur should ensure that the centre takes action for restoring peace in state, instead of stepping back after making some statements in the upcoming monsoon session of the parliament on July 21, Republican Party of India-Athawale (RPI-A) national secretary and Manipur State president Maheshwar Thounaojam has stated.
Speaking to newspersons at RPI-A office at Keishampat on Friday, Maheshwar hoped for the upcoming session to be taken seriously by the MPs, especially from Manipur.
He continued that Manipur does not have government-owing to the President's Rule.
The two-year long conflict has left thousands displaced and in poor conditions.
There is no true peace in the state, he remarked, adding that the people are looking forward to the three MPs shouldering responsibility in monsoon session.
He urged the MPs to prioritise restoration of peace in Manipur instead of taking needlessly long time in the parhament just to deliver speech and suggested that political parties stop playing the blame game and instead live up to the role as elected representatives of the people and work to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
Responding to questions from the newspersons, Maheshwar said that RPI (A) does not want the PR to continue any longer and instead want a stable government, upholding the people's mandate.
He expressed firm belief that the party leaders would object to the extension of PR when the Modi government introduces a resolution on the same.
For this, the state party leaders would be communicating with the central leaders, he added.
