Kakching, May 17 2025:
Divisional Forest Officer, Chandel and 21 Assam Rifles organised National Endangered Species Day and Advance World Environment Day, 2025 observance at the Modi village headquarters of 21 Assam Rifles, in Chandel district, and planted around 350 tree saplings on Friday.
Speaking at the programme, Chandel divisional forest officer Dr Naorem Munal Meitei noted that while India is a highly populous nation striving to join the global race for development its environment has suffered serious degradation.
Acknowledging role and contribution of the armed forces in protecting the environment, he stated that with a total strength of 51 lakh personnel, if each member of the armed forces plants one tree sapling, 51 lakhs trees could be planted annually, significantly contributing to environmental conservation.
Saplings of tree species once abundant but are now rare were planted on the occasion.
