Imphal, July 16 2025:
Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) has expressed hope that the High Court of Manipur will deliver a just and fair judgment in response to the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the Lup seeking special concession on flight fares, taking into account the ongoing hardships faced by the people of the valley, particularly the Meetei community.
According to KKL secretary general Ngamkheingakpa Luwang, the valley dwellers, Meeteis to be specific, have been denied access to the two national highways, the lifelines of Manipur, ever since the ethnic violence broke out in May 2023.As a result, residents of the valley have no option but to travel by air.
However, flight fares have risen sharply, creating a significant financial burden for many, especially the Meeteis who must travel for personal, educational or medical reasons.
Despite the KKL submitting repeated complaints and representations to both the state and central authorities, no concrete action has been taken to address the issue or alleviate the hardships faced by the public to date, he added.
Ngamkheingakpa further stated that since the authorities concerned failed to address grievances of the public, KKL was compelled to approach the Manipur High Court by filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), seeking special concession on flight fares in light of the ongoing hardships faced by the people of the valley, particularly the Meetei community.
He informed that hearings on the PIL are currently underway, with the next hearing scheduled for July 18 .
