RAMO opposes border fencing in Rilram area

Imphal, December 14 2024: The Rilram Area Maring Organisation (RAMO) has urged the government to halt ongoing border fencing works in the Rilram area of Tengnoupal district.

In a statement, RAMO expressed concern over a recent order issued by the DC of Tengnoupal district regarding border fencing near border pillars 81 and 85.The Maning Uparup Assembly, the apex body of the Maring community, has also opposed the fencing project.

RAMO warned that the government should bear responsibility for any adverse outcomes resulting from the construction.

The organisation alleged that the fencing project selectively targets Maring areas and claimed it could lead to the loss of state land to Myanmar.

RAMO further stated that while it does not reject the project outright, any decision to proceed should be deferred until the current crisis in the state is resolved.
