Imphal, July 29 2026:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of All Manipur MSPCL and MSPDCL 2019 Exam Completed Candidates has announced a 24-hour general strike from midnight of July 31, demanding revocation of the cancellation order of the 2019 recruitment process and declaration of the pending results.
Before announcing the general strike, members of the JAC took out a protest march from the BSNL office gate at Babupara, carrying placards toward the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
However, security personnel stopped the protesters before they could reach the Chief Minister's Secretariat, leading to a stand-off between the two sides.
The protesters alleged that security personnel snatched away and tore their placards.
The protesters also sought a meeting with the Chief Minister, but their request was denied by the security personnel.
One of the protesters said the examination was cancelled during the President's Rule period.
Stating that they had submitted several memorandums to the Government and met several MLAs seeking revocation of the cancellation order and declaration of the results, he added that their appeals, however, had been ignored repeatedly.
Later, speaking at the Manipur Press Club, Yumkhaibam Manoj, a member of the JAC, said the committee decided to call the general strike as the Government had failed to pay attention to their demands.
He appealed to all organisations to support their movement.
