CM inaugurates DIET building, market

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand today inaugurated a newly constructed building of District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) at Salam, Imphal West.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated a new women's market (Ima Market) at the same place.
The DIET building was constructed under Samagra (Teacher Education) scheme while the Ima Market was constructed under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) .
Speaking at the inauguration function, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand said that DIET Centre, Imphal West was running from DM College campus for a long time.

Khemchand said that the only DIET Centre of all the 13 Assembly segments of Imphal West district has been established at Salam under Lamsang Assembly Constituency following dedicated efforts of local MLA Sorokhaibam Rajen.
The Chief Minister said that the DIET Centre will be a big asset for the people of the area, particularly students.
He also hailed the Planning Department for taking the initiative of constructing an Ima Market at Salam while also maintaining high construction quality.
Khemchand exuded confidence that Salam and surrounding areas would see significant development in the near future.
The new DIET building and the new market will shed a new light of development in the area, he said.
MLA S Rajen said that the DIET Centre opened today at Salam will provide immense benefits to students of not only Lamsang AC but the entire Imphal West district.
Rajen said that a hostel which can accommodate 50 students is being constructed under the institute at Salam Maning Leikai and the construction process has been completed by 90 per cent.
Once the hostel is completed, students from far off places will be able to stay at the hostel and study in DIET Imphal West, Rajen said.
He also exuded confidence that the Ima Keithel inaugurated today will help in augmenting the economic well being of the women of not only Lamsang AC but also of surrounding areas.
Asserting that education is the backbone of any society, Rajen said that he has been paying special attention to education apart from taking several development initiatives.
Appealing to all womenfolk of Lamsang AC to join the ongoing process of forming Self Help Groups and avail due benefits, the MLA appealed to one and all not to fall prey to the Congress party's false propaganda.
The DIET Centre at Salam was constructed at the cost of Rs 4.47 crore sanctioned by the Ministry of Education while the Ima Market was constructed at the cost of Rs 3 crore and it was funded by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India.
Apart from Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand and MLA S Rajen, the programme organised by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) was Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Imphal West; Prof (Dr) DVLN Somayajulu, Director, National Institute of Technology (NIT); Prof Aheibam Romel Singh, Director, SCERT; RK Radhesana, Director, Planning Department; senior officials of SCERT and the Planning Department; students and local residents.
