Imphal, August 20 2025:
Even as National Highway-2 (Imphal-Dimapur road) remains inaccessible due to the June 1 landslide at Nagaland's Phesama, various driver unions have been working together to ensure uninterrupted movement of goods and supplies to Manipur via alternate bypass routes.
Notably, the Chakhabama-Mao and Chechoro-Tadubi roads are being used as alternate routes following the Phesama landslide.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' & Motor Workers' Union (AMRTD& MWU) general secretary Maimom Anil stated that the road repair work at Phesama is incomplete, so drivers are still using the Chakhabama-Mao and Chechoro-Tadubi roads as alternatives.
Regarding the road conditions, he said that repair works are underway on the worst-affected stretches of the Chakhabama-Mao road under the supervision of Mao AC MLA Losii Dikho.
He said that a team comprising AMRTD&MWU, Surface Transport Hill Areas Drivers Welfare Union (STHADWU), and Senapati District Driver's Welfare Union (SDDWU) has surveyed the approximately 80-km Chechoro-Tadubi stretch.
Although issues like damaged culverts were observed in around 15 km of the Chechoro-Tadubi stretch, the road is now accessible to vehicles thanks to the efforts of a team from the Hills Area Driver Welfare Union, Anil said and urged all transporters to report any problems they encounter to the drivers' unions.
