Imphal, May 20 2026:
The Naga People's Union Imphal (NPUI) has asserted that the whereabouts of the six missing Naga men can be ascertained without much difficulty by questioning Lanboi Vaiphei, the chief of Leilon Vaiphei village.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, NPUI president M Ngaranmi said that 18 people including women and children were coming back after attending a marriage ceremony at Konsakhul on May 13 when they were intercepted by a group of Vaiphei women at Leilon Vaiphei village.
The women and children were kept at one place while the men were taken to another place.
Even though the women and children have been freed, the six men could not be traced till date.
Ngaranmi said that the whereabouts of the missing men can be established if Lanboi Vaiphei, the chief of Leilon Vaiphei is pulled up and grilled.
He urged security forces to pull up those people involved in intercepting and abducting the Naga people.
The group who have been keeping the Naga men hostage or responsible for eliminating the hostages, if they are already dead, can be identified by pulling up and questioning those people, he said.
The NPUI president said the Naga people fear 90 per cent the six men have been eliminated.
He urged all concerned to hand over the dead bodies of the hostages if they have been already eliminated.
He then urged the Government to take Leilon Vaiphei chief Lanboi Vaiphei and others involved in intercepting the Naga people into custody and question them within 24 hours.
He also demanded abrogation of the SoO agreement immediately.
There will be peace in Manipur only after the SoO agreement is abrogated.
Categorically saying that Kukis are immigrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh, Ngaranmi urged the Government to remove all stones painted with 'Kukiland', erected in Kuki villages.
He also mentioned the killing of two sleeping toddlers at Tronglaobi and the killing of three civilians by CRPF in the subsequent protest.
Representatives of Liangmai Naga Council, Eastern Zone and Konsakhul village were also present at the press meet.
