Social activist Sanjoy Ahanthem has demanded to know the PR Government's progress in executing the Ministry of Home Affairs' directive to States and UTs to deport illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar within 30 days.
He raised the poser before media persons today, a month since the MHA issued the order on May 19 .
According to the order, the MHA clearly instructed States and UTs to detect, identify and deport illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar and to verify the documents of persons suspected to be illegal immigrants within 30 days, said Sanjoy Ahanthem.
He maintained that the people of Manipur lauded the MHA's directive as it appeared that the Home Ministry had finally realized the root cause of the Manipur conflict which erupted on May 3, 2023.Now that 30 days are up, he urged the PR Government to give a detailed account of the actions taken on the directive before the people of Manipur.
The social activist urged the PR Government to disclose the data regarding the number of illegal immigrants that have been detected, whose data have been verified and finally deported to their home countries.
Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Chief Secretary PK Singh and DGP Rajiv Singh should tell the people how many detention centres have been built in Manipur, in which districts and how many illegal immigrants have been detained in these centres till date, said Sanjoy Ahanthem.
He demanded an up to date survey report of illegal immigrants in Manipur from the PR Government.
Further, he sought the support of CSOs, political parties and other relevant groups to determine how many illegal immigrants the PR Government has detected and to demand an explanation from the PR Government if they have not acted on the MHA directive.
