Assam CM : We are ready for discussion

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told reporters here today that the Government is ready to talk with the agitating groups.
Tarun Gogoi's remarks come close on the heels of the intensified drive taken up by the Karbi, Bodo and Dimasa for creation of separate States of their own ever since Telengana was declared a new State, making it the 29 State of the Indian Union.
Reiterating the Government's stance for a united Assam and no bifurcation of boundaries, Gogoi said that people have the right to protest, demand and vent out their grievances, which he admits is genuine and have been going on for many years.
"We are ready to sit down and discuss with all the groups including the Ulfa" said Gogoi.
The Chief Minister who had been flying to the capital every alternate day, deliberated and discussed the matter with the Prime Minister and the UPA chairperson.
He also met Union Home Minister Shushil Kumar Shinde and other Home Ministry officials.
Gogoi has already placed his proposals before the Central Government, sources said.
Addressing the media, Gogoi categorically stated that their are also conflicting views on Statehood demand as well as opposition to the demand, and pointed out the complications in proposing solutions wherein there is most likelihood of creating more conflicts in a region like North East.
Stating that the Government is willing to listen, the Assam Chief Minister told that the process for dialogue can be initiated if the agitating parties are willing to come for discussion.
On being asked what is the key rationale for objection to granting of statehood, Gogoi stated that new state cannot be formed/created without consensus.
