Woman thrashed by brother-in-law dies

Thoubal, January 09 2023: A woman who sustained serious injuries after she was thrashed by her brother-in-law last night was found dead this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Khundrakpam (Ningol) Shanti (45) w/o Saikhom Kumar of Khangabok Part 3, Makha Leikai.

She is survived by her husband, two sons and a daughter.

It is said that Saikhom Kumar has been staying separately in a rented house after taking a second wife.

According to information culled from the spot, Shanti and Kumar's younger brother Saikhom Binoy had a heated argument last evening.

As the argument raged on, Binoy hit Shanti with a stick on the head apart from punching the woman on the face, eyes and nose.

Shanti was found dead on her bed this morning.

Forensic experts of Manipur Police today carried out an inquest of the room where Shanti was found dead.

Later, the corpse was taken to JNIMS mortuary for post mortem.

Meanwhile, Shanti's younger brother Khundrakpam Sunil alleged that Saikhom Kumar, Saikhom Binoy and Binoy's son were responsible for the death of his sister.

He then urged the authority concerned to award befitting punishment to all three of them.

A late report informed that police have arrested both Saikhom Kumar and Saikhom Binoy.
