Imphal, September 04 2026: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has condemned the bomb attack at the residence of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader K Meghachandra, MLA of Wangkhem Assembly Constituency, at Yairipok Bishnunaha last night as an attack on democracy.

Addressing the media at Congress Bhavan today, MPCC vice-president Hareshwar Goswami said any attempt to intimidate an elected representative through such an attack is highly unacceptable.

Any grievances should be resolved through dialogue, he advised, while stating that resorting to violence in a manner that could have resulted in fatalities is unacceptable.

He claimed that his residence at Wangkhei was fired upon multiple times around two to three years ago and alleged that the police, however, did not take any action against the assailants despite submitting CCTV footage of the attack.

The manner in which the BJP Government treats the Opposition reflects a lack of political maturity and civility, he claimed.

Hareshwar alleged that the police used excessive force when just five to 10 Congress workers took out a peaceful rally towards Lok Bhavan but no similar action was taken when BJP workers marched from Nityaipat Chuthek to BT Road and allegedly used harsh language in front of Congress Bhavan.

He also claimed that a portion of the livestream of the Assembly session in which the updation of the NRC with 1951 as the base year was discussed had been removed from the Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) YouTube channel.
