Held on charge of sexual assault

Imphal, May 04 2025: Imphal East police arrested a 41 year old man who runs a football academy on the charge of sexually assaulting minor boys of the academy today at around 5 pm.

The arrested person has been identified as Nongthombam Mangal of Khabam Maning Leikai under Heingang police station.

He operates Mangal Football Academy at his residence.

According to reports from the spot, the boys were scheduled to meet their parents today.

One of the boys reportedly told his parents about the alleged sexual assault by the academy's founder, leading him to refuse to continue at the football academy.

Media persons also arrived at the scene after being informed by the parents.

According to the parents, the football academy has 11 male students.

Saying that the training ground of their academy is at Achanbigei, they added that they no longer want their children to continue at the academy due to the founder's character.

They went on to claim that the academy's founder sexually assaulted the boys one after another at both the academy and the training ground.

The parents urged the relevant authorities to investigate the matter and take up necessary actions.
