Imphal, September 03 2026: Absence of some departments' key officials in the Assembly Hall today peeved Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah during the general discussion on the Demands for Supplementary Grants 2026-27 .

Raising issues related to dilapidated roads in Ukhrul, the MLA noticed that officials of the relevant departments were not present inside the Assembly hall.

Seeking the attention of the Chief Minister, he emphasised that senior officials of departments should hear the issues regarding developmental works being raised in the House.

Highlighting poor connectivity in Ukhrul region, Ram said the reason for rapid deterioration of blacktopped roads, especially amid the rainy season, may be technical, particularly absence of proper drainage systems.

Constructing proper drainages on both sides and blacktopping the entire width may lengthen the life of the roads, Ram stressed.

Proper drainage systems and blacktopping the entire width of a road may help address the issue of waterlogging and dust, he added.

In many places, rigid pavement has replaced blacktopped roads.

But, if roads are to be blacktopped, then it should be done following the required standards, and include construction of drainage systems, he said.

The MLA also sought the attention of the Government to increase the funds for maintenance of the roads.
