Imphal, November 23 2016:
Inner Manipur MP Dr Thokchom Meinya has asked the UNC to immediately call off the economic blockade.
He has also demanded a 247 protection of National Highways.
Inner Manipur MP Dr Thokchom Meinya at the Lok Sabha today said, "There has been an ongoing economic blockade at National Highways of Manipur called by the United Naga Council (UNC) since the first day of this month.
People of the State are facing insurmountable hardships.
The prices of essential commodities are sky-rocketed.
Petrol per litre cost more than Rs 300 and there was no stock of petrol and diesel in the State.
Schools were closed for want of fuel for the school vans" .
"The situation has not improved yet.
Demonetization of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes has further worsened the situation," he said.
"Economic blockade is not the right way to make our voices heard.
It has created hatred among us, let us stop it.
I urge upon the UNC to immediately call off the economic blockade", Dr Meinya said adding, "I also demand the establishment of dedicated NHs Protection Security Forces to regulate 247 smooth flows of vehicles for passengers and goods on these NHs.
There is an absolute necessity for such forces" .
He further urged the Union Government to immediately intervene and help the State Government to mitigate the situation before it is too late.
