Imphal, November 21:
Reiterating its earlier demand that the AFSPA should be repealed by December 10 to co-incide with the International Day of Human Rights, the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup today said that they have already highlighted the matter to the Prime Minister and added that a mass mobilisation drive will be launched from November 23 for the impending people's movement.
In a statement, the Working Committee said that a two day people's convention will also be held on December 8 and 9 to hold in depth discussion on the matter and expressed hope that people of the North East and other parts of the country who stand by democratic rights will extend their co-operation to the Apunba Lup.
The decision to demand the total repeal of AFSPA was taken during the one day convention held to study the response of the Centre to the demand of the people, added the statement and recalled how the Prime Minister had assured the Lup team that a more humane Act will replace AFSPA.
Support from the people of the North East and other places will be galvanised, said the statement and reminded all that the people's movement against the said Act had received tremendous support from all over.
