Kalikhola earth crack slides further

Kangpokpi, June 05 2017:
The earth crack that developed in and around Kalikhola in Kangpokpi district slid more than 10 feet last night which has completely blocked IT Road � Makuli � Kalapahar road today.
Environmentalist Dr Brajakumar once said there lies a dormant volcano at that range pointing his fingers at the Koubru range when there was a massive mudslide that occurred at Keithelmanbi many years back.
The situation at the area has drastically changed since yesterday as the crack is now much larger than yesterday and most of land has been sliding gradually.
The PMGSY road connecting IT Road to Kalapahar via Makuli is also completely damaged and blocked by a massive earth that slid down owing to further cracking yesterday night.
Altogether, around 11 houses have been completely damaged by now while the rest numbering around 19 houses are on the verge of falling apart and more than 20 paris of paddy fields belonging to Kalikhola villagers have already been damaged.
Unfortunately, the local MLA who is also the Minister of Tribal Hills Areas Development and Fisheries is yet to visit the site and address the grievances of the affected victims while there is no response from the State Government except the district administration and the local administration.
Kalikhola village is under Tadubi Assembly Constituency but falls under the district administration of Kangpokpi.
Kangpokpi Deputy Commissioner Kangpokpi T Ranjit personally visited the spot with SDC (HQs) Kaigoulal Kipgen and assessed the situation while visiting the affected victims who are sheltered at the temporary relief camp at Goma Devi High School, Toribari.
The district administration also provided essential commodities to the affected victims.
DC Kangpokpi appealed the public of Kangpokpi more particularly the residents within the vicinity of Kakikhola not to go in and around the areas as the situation has turned from bad to worse as precautionary measures.
ADC Sadar Hills Chairman, Haokholal Hangshing, who is also the local MDC of the area visited the affected people at the temporary relief camp at Goma Devi High School, Toribari today and provided financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to the victims encouraged them to be strong at such a juncture.
He also motivated the affected victims stating that apart from the district administration, ADC Sadar Hills and Kangpokpi Town Committee, other civil bodies are all there for their assistance.
Gorkha representatives in ADC Sadar Hills, Bhumi Vikas Basnet, Executive Member and Milan Pradhan, Member ADC Sadar Hills who accompanied the Chairman also provided essential commodities to the affected victims.
Kangpokpi Town Committee also accompanied the Chairman on his visit to the earth crack affected victims at Goma Devi High School.
Executive Member, Bhumi Vikas Basnet appealed the state Government to address the grievances of the affected victims at the earliest possibility.
The evacuation of residents at Kalikhola areas is still going on till the time of writing this report.
