CCpur, June 05 2017:
After five days of frantic search, the lifeless body of baby Kimngaihsiam was found by local divers today at Khuga river, about 8 kms from the place where she had drowned along with her four-year-old brother.
Kimngaihsiam (3) and her brother lost their life to flood water on Thursday as they ventured out near Lanva rivulet that flows just a few meters away from their home.
People who saw the kids drowning in the flood water managed to pull-up the older brother but the little girl who was doing her preparatory class in Rayburn High School was lost in the current.
A massive mission to locate the body was initiated hours after the fateful incident involving philanthropic organisations and Government agencies.
Initially the search teams focused on Lanva rivulet to locate the body but they gradually expanded to the bigger Khuga river which the Lanva meets a few kilometres downstream from the disaster site.
As the search entered its fifth-day the focus shifted towards Khuga river and eventually at about 4.30 pm today a volunteer of Hmar Youth Association (HYA) identified as Michael Infimate located the body near Saidan village in the river.
Sources said Michael also personally retrieved the baby's lifeless body from the water, which is still furious due to the recent spate of rain.
The baby's body was later taken to the district hospital mortuary for dressing and she will be taken to their residence at Lanva along with the body of Lianlunmang, her elder sibling whose body is at the mortuary.
The remains of the siblings are most likely to be buried tomorrow at Lanva Cemetry.
