Imphal, May 28 2025:
Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) submitted a memorandum to the Governor, demanding special provisions for the internally displaced students including scholarships, budget allocation, hostel facilities and seat quotas at both private and government schools and stationery items at free of cost.
Drawing attention of the Governor on critical educational challenges being faced by internally displaced students due to the prevailing law and order situation in the state, the memorandum said displaced students, despite potential and aspiration, often face multiple barriers in accessing further education due to financial, social and infrastructure shortfalls.
The memorandum also suggested certain measures to ensure that displaced students are not left behind in the pursuit of education and opportunity.
It proposed special scholarships, dedicated budget allocation, hostel facilities, seat reservation, establishment of monitoring & support cells and provisions of free textbooks and study materials.
These steps will not only uphold the constitutional right to education but also empower a generation affected by displacement to rebuild their lives and contribution meaningfully to the society in general, the memorandum signed by SSUM president S Yaima Meetei mentioned and urged the Governor to take appropriate and timely action to address this crucial issue.
