Student found hanging, JAC demands probe

Imphal, July 22 2025:
A 13-year-old boy was found hanging from a tree inside the premises of Lamjing Meira Maheikol School at Saiton early Tuesday morning under suspicious circumstances.
The deceased student has been identified as Phuritsabam Santosh alias Pitru, son of Phuritsabam Ningthem of Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai, Ward No 1 under Torbung GP .
He was a Class VI student at the school.
According to police, information was received around 4:55 am that the boy was found hanging at about 4 am.
School teachers discovered the incident and immediately rushed him to the nearest Primary Health Centre at Kwakta, as the boy was reportedly still alive at the time of rescue.
However, despite emergency efforts, he was declared brought dead by the attending doctor at 4:50 am.
A regular Unnatural Death (UD) case has Been registered at Phougakchao Ikhai PS and has initiated further investigation into the incident.
In the wake of the boy's death, a Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against the Unnatural Death of Phuritsabam Santosh has been formed.
The JAC is led by convenor Khangembam Jaya, chairman K Kegesana, and co-convenors Moirangthem Alish and Phuritsabam Arun.
The committee has expressed strong suspicion over the circumstances leading to the death and demanded that a swift and thorough investigation be conducted.
The JAC has also called for the arrest of those responsible and has set a five-day deadline for authorities to act.
