Langmeithet village restricts palm oil plantation

Imphal, June 30 2025: Nongpok Ningthou Panthoibi Lai Thougal Lup, Langmeithet has declared complete ban on plantation of palm oil trees by any individual or agency in areas under its jurisdiction stretching from Langmeithet Maning Ching to Lokchao.

In a release, the Lup informed that the decision to restrict palm oil plantations was taken after thorough discussions among the villagers.

Anyone who plants palm oil in the area in violation of the resolution and without consulting the villagers shall have to bear the consequences, warned the Lup.

It also pointed out that the locals have been planting trees in and around the village with the support of the Forest Department, and have been cooperating with the department.

The Lup further appealed to all not to engage in any activities that could harm the environment.
