Body rues ring road plan in residential area

Imphal, June 29 2025: Kangleipak Naharol Yaipha Thousillup cum Library and Information Centre, Khurai Chathaibi Leirak denounced the government plan for development of the ring road project through congested residential area.

In a release, the Khurai organisation informed that members of local meira paibi groups and clubs convened a meeting for the second time on Saturday regarding the ring road plan prepared by the PWD, which will pass through Chaithabi Leirak.

The meeting pointed out that Chaithabi Leirak, being a congested residential locality, is already burdened with traffic problems and further condemned the ring road plan in such congested area.

The purpose of the ring road is for convenient commuting in and out of Imphal city.

However, the meeting observed that constructing such a road through Chaithabi Leirak holds little relevance.

Furthermore, placing the ring road in this densely populated residential area would only worsen noise and air pollution, posing serious health risks to the residents.

Local clubs urged the authorities to relocate the proposed ring road to a non-res-idential area, the release added.
