Cancer treatment conference 'ONCOCON 2025' begins

Imphal, June 28 2025:
A two-day conference on cancer treatment titled 'ONCOCON 2025', organised by the Society of Medical Oncologists of India, began from Saturday at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong, with the participation of specialised oncologists.
The conference is being held in coordination with American Oncology Institute, Babina Speciality Hospital, North East Chapter of the Indian Society for Haematology and Transfusion Medicine, and We Care Foundation.
The inaugural session was attended by Manipur University vice-chancellor Professor N Lokendra as chief guest, while the conference's organising chairman Dr Thoudam Tomcha presided over the event.
American Oncology Institute, Babina Speciality Hospital's surgical oncologist Dr Dhanabir Thangjam and the conference's organising secretary Professor Shibashish Bhattacharya were guests of honour.
In his address, Prof N Lokendro lauded the organisers for holding 'ONCOCON 2025' in the state and expressed hope that the conference would enrich the knowledge of doctors engaged in cancer treatment.
He expressed delight at learning that bone marrow transplants have been successfully conducted in the state and extended gratitude to the American Oncology Institute, Babina Speciality Hospital, and the team of doctors, nurses and policymakers involved.
Speaking about the significance of the event, organising committee patron member and Babina Group of Companies managing director Dr Thangjam Dhabali said that this is the first time a national-level conference on cancer treatment is being hosted in the state.
He informed that the conference will primarily focus on a new cancer treatment approach called immunotherapy.
More than 30 delegates, including 15 renowned cancer specialists from AIIMS, PGI Chandigarh and Tata Memorial Hospital, are participating in the event to share their experiences in cancer treatment.
