Imphal, July 21 2025:
As part of its campaign against substance abuse, Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) organised a one-day academic awareness programme at Leimapokpam Muhindro (LM) High School, Thoubal Athokpam on Monday.
According to a CADA release, the programme was attended by its vice-president Ningthoujam Doren, LM High School principal Soubam Biren, and CADA Thoubal District Committee president Athokpam Bimola as presidium members.
Speaking as a resource person, CADA secretary general Takhellambam Geetchandra asserted that all forms of intoxicants adversely affect the human body and the idea that consuming intoxicants in small, controlled doses can benefit health is a dangerous myth.
He said that such misconceptions are among the leading causes of substance abuse among youth, warning that addiction often begins with casual or minimal usage.
"One should never taste it, as addiction develops from such small doses," he warned.
Geetchandra also pointed out that many people falsely believe that tobacco products do not constitute substance abuse, explaining that tobacco products are in fact a gateway to more severe forms of substance use and must be treated as such.
Highlighting the widespread impact of intoxicant use, he said that it is now difficult to find a family unaffected by substance abuse.
He stressed that substance abuse not only harms individuals but also hampers the progress of society and called upon parents, teachers, and Meira Paibi members to work collectively to curb all forms of substance abuse.
