Purul celebrates Paoki tourism festival

Purul (Hiimai) village, located in Senapati district, celebrated Paoki, a tourism festival of Manipur, on Thursday and Friday.
The event was attended by Vek-hosayi Nyekha, advisor to Tenyimi Union, Dimapur, as the chief guest.
The Purul Tourism Festival, sponsored by the Department of Tourism is an important cultural event celebrated annually by the Pou-mai Naga community.
Also known as the Paoki Festival, it is a three-day traditional paddy transplantation festival that highlights the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Each day of the festival features distinct activities, including traditional feasts, cultural performances, and community gatherings.
Visitors are generously offered free food, drinks, and accommodation, showcasing the renowned hospitality of the Poumai Naga people.
Since 2017, the Department of Tourism has designated the Paoki Festival an official Tourism Festival of Manipur and provided regular funding support.
In his welcome address, Naada Fly, president of the Purul Youth & Students Organisation (PYSO), stated that the festival aims to celebrate the spirit of agriculture, the resilience of the community, and its vibrant cultural heritage.
He emphasised the importance of sustainable farming practices and expressed hope for a bountiful harvest.
The PYSO leader also expressed his wish for the festival to foster unity, joy, and a deeper connection to ancestral traditions as the community commences the paddy transplantation season.
