Students demand DIET centre in Jiribam

Jiribam, July 16 2025: Supporting the demand of MSP, DESAM, KSA, SUK, AIMS and another student body for establishing a District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) centre in Jiribam district, students of Jiri College, Kadamtala staged demonstration at the college gate on Wednesday.

Speaking in connection with the protest, KSA Jiribam District Council president K Somorjit expressed strong resentment that in-spite of Jiribam granted full-fledged district status years back, it does not have a DIET centre.

Mentioning that a memorandum demanding a DIET centre was submitted to the Governor through the Jiribam deputy commissioner, he said students of the district are compelled to pursue course in DIET centre in other districts due to absence of sucha facility in Jiribam.

Somorjit further asserted that considering the problems faced by the students of the districts the state government must establish a DIET centre in the district at the earliest, while cautioning of launching various forms of agitation in case the genuine demand is not considered favourably.

During the demonstration, the students raised slogans and held placards inscribed 'We condemn government's negligence of education sector in Jiribam', 'Rise up for Education: DIET Jiribam', 'DIET for Jiribam: A fundamental right' and 'We demand a DIET centre in the district' .
