Awareness prog on child protection held

Kakching, August 11 2025:
District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Tengnoupal under Department of Social Welfare organised a one-day awareness programme on Child Protection & Child Related Laws at St Peter's School on Monday.
The programme featured informative sessions by Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Tengnoupal member secretary Damgam Khaling on 'Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2021', Tengnoupal PS 2nd OC and in-charge of Crime Against Women-Woman SI Khulak Tothang Dangshawa on 'POCSO Act and Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2005', CWC, Tengnoupal member Tontang Moishel on 'Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2016 and laws against child trafficking' .
The programme witnessed active participation from students, teachers, and community members.
The participants were reminded that laws alone are not enough as collective action from all sections of society is essential to create a safe and nurturing environment for every child.
The principal and staff of St Peter's School expressed their appreciation for the initiative, noting its importance for both students and the wider community.
Speaking through a written message, DCPU Phurailatpam Devavrata Sharma emphasised that protecting children "is not an occasional campaign but an everyday responsibility we all share" .
He urged parents, teachers, law enforcement agencies, and the wider community to remain vigilant and to act without delay whenever a child is at risk.
