NWU, Naga CSOs to observe IDWIP

Naga Women's Union (NWU) along with apex civil society organisations will observe International Day of World's Indigenous People (IDWIP) on August 9 under the theme 'Indigenous peoples and AI: Defending rights, shaping futures' under the aegis of Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact(AlPP).
Ahead of the observance, NWU general secretary Ang-umei Hoibila invited its units, United Naga Council (UNC), All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) and Naga People's Movement for Human Rights-South (NPMHR-S) to attend the commemorative event to be held 10.30 am at SM Sha Hall, Senapati.
Earlier, a notice was issued by the UNC, urging all members of the Naga community not to attend the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples organised by unmandated organisation in the name of Indigenous People's Forum, Manipur at City Convention, Palace Compound, Imphal, in order to prioritise the well-being and protection of its community's rights and interests.
The Naga body further warned that any recalcitrant individual/tribe participating in the scheduled event/progamme should not take the name of one's tribe and speak on behalf of the Nagas.
