Health teams dispatched to prevent suicide: Min Ranjan

Health & Family Welfare/IPR Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh has informed that steps havebeen taken up including dispatching ment al health teams in all districts to prevent suicidal ideation among displaced people staying in the relief camps.
A tree plantation event in relation with World Environment Day-2024 was organised jointly by National Program on Climate Change & Human Health (NPCCHH), National Health Mission, Manipur and Directorate of Health Services, at the premises of Directorate in Lamphelpat, here, on Saturday.
Responding to questions from media, Dr Ranjan said that it is given that displaced people staying in relief camps will suffer from mental health issues.
As such, teams under a nodal officer have been dispatched to various relief camps by the department to take care of the mental health of the inmates.
The minister extended condolences on the death of an inmate who committed suicide and another who attempted suicide in relief camps.
He informed that a report has already been made in this regard, adding that the mental health teams have been taking up necessary action in the relief camps in all the districts.
Further responding to questions from media, Dr Ranjan urged doctors not to consider postings at Jiribam District Hospital as punishment.
Any failure to join the posting will warrant strict action.
As such, he urged the doctors to perform their duties sincerely at the place of their posting, as the postings are done on rotational basis.
Additionally, officials concerned have inspected the Jiribam District Hospital for development of its infrastructure.
Currently, a team has been deployed for developing the infrastructure, he said, while assuring that the District Hospital will soon see new changes.
With regard to the tree plantation, the minister said that the event has been organised for the purpose of beautification and environmental affection inside the office campus along with the officials as an exemplary and responsible duty.
He further said that the event was supposed to be held on the occasion of World Environment Day, 2024, but it was delayed due to the recent flood.
Health & Family Welfare special secretary A Hungyo Worshang; Health Services director Dr O Sanahanbi Devi; Churachandpur Medical College director Dr Iboyaima, and National Health Mission state mission director Dr M Dinesh Singh were also present at the event.
