Senapati, May 09 2025:
Imphal Archbishop Dr Linus Neli JCD has urged all members of the Archdiocese of Imphal to join in prayer and celebrate a Mass of thanksgiving on May 10, as Pope Leo XIV embarks on his papacy.
The Archbishop expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the appointment of Pope Leo XIV, who was formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost.
Born on September 14, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, Pope Leo XIV is the first Pope from the Order of Saint Augustine and the second from the Americas, following Pope Francis.
He was appointed Cardinal by Pope Francis in 2024, after serving in various significant roles, including Prior General of the Augustinian Order and Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops.
The Archbishop highlighted that Pope Leo XIV's selection of the name "Leo" reflects a mission of justice and social responsibility, inspired by the legacy of Pope Leo XIII, known for his contributions to Catholic social teaching.
Pope Leo XIV's papacy promises moral clarity, spiritual renewal and a focus on unity in Christ, encapsulated in his motto; "In IIIo uno unum" (Although we Christians are many, in the one Christ we are one) .
The Archbishop also shared Pope Leo XIV's first message to the world, offering words of hope and courage: "Evil will not prevail; we are in the hands of God.
So without fear, united hand in hand with God and among ourselves, we go forward" .
