Imphal, July 08 2025:
Lok Sabha MP Dr Bimol Akoijam on Tuesday underscored the need for increased investment in education and healthcare to ensure meaningful development and lasting peace in the state.
He made the remarks while attending a certificate distribution event for residents of relief camps organised by Manipur International University.
The event, themed "Reviving Tradition of Utong Ngari Productions and Pearl Culture", was held at Ima Thongak, Lairenbi Shanglen, Langol.
The certificates were distributed to participants of a workshop on the fermentation process of Utong Ngari, a traditional fermented fish product.
Dr Bimol emphasised that the improvement of living conditions in relief camps should be a top priority and acknowledged the stark disparities in facilities among different camps.
He noted that the displaced population must be supported with better infrastructure and services.
Highlighting the link be tween peace and justice, the MP stressed that those responsible for the ongoing crisis must be held accountable in order to restore harmony in the region.
He asserted that the future of Manipur lies in the collective efforts to build a society rooted in fairness and responsibility.
Dr Bimol also called upon the present generation to work harder and cultivate strong work ethics to pave the way for a more prosperous future, stating: "Without progress in education and healthcare, true development and economic uplift would remain out of reach".
Citing examples of developed countries, he urged the society to adopt similar models that prioritise these key sectors.
The MP further pointed to the critical role universities play in societal development, stating that academic institutions must lead in research and innovation to address the state's challenges.
He remarked that both India's and Manipur's education systems remain underdeveloped compared to global standards, and called for a strategic overhaul to elevate them.
