Shija observes ORS Week 2025

Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, in collaboration with Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) and the Paediatric Association of Manipur (PAM), observed ORS Week 2025 on Monday at Shija auditorium, Langol.
In a release, Shija informed that the event focused on raising awareness about the critical role of oral rehydration salts (ORS) in preventing dehydration caused by gastrointestinal diseases, particularly among children.
The observance held under this year's theme "ORS; A Simple Solution for a Healthier Future" with the slogan Sip Smart, Stay Strong-Say Yes to ORS", brought together around 100 healthcare professionals, reflecting strong participation from the medical community.

The event was attended by Shija Hospitals chairman and managing director Dr Palin Khundongbam as chief guest, PAM secretary Dr L Basanta Singh and Shija Academy principal Babita Chingakham as guests of honour, and Babina Hospital medical superintendent & senior paediatrician Dr Shyamkumar Laishram as functional president.
Shija Hospitals consultant paediatrician Dr Kh Sachikumar gave an overview of Oral Rehydration Therapy (ORT), underscoring continued relevance of ORS as a cornerstone of paediatric care and calling for greater awareness and community-level implementation of ORT to reduce child morbidity and mortality.
As part of the educational outreach, nursing officers from Shija Hospitals conducted live demonstrations on proper hand hygiene techniques and the correct method of preparing ORS solution, reinforcing key preventive practices for the public.
Shija Hospitals, along with its partner organisers IAP and PAM, reaffirmed commitment to reducing childhood illness and mortality through sustained community education and accessible healthcare solutions, the release added.
