Fish drying unit inaugurated in Bishnupur

Bishnupur, May 28 2025:
A state-of-the-art Smoking Clean Electric Dryer and Hybrid Dryer, a fish drying unit, was inaugurated on Wednesday at the Community Fish Processing Centre in Kha Potshangbam, Bishnupur district.
The machine, capable of drying 1500 to 2000 kg of fish per day, was handed over to the Bharathimana Fisherman Development Cooperative Limited, Kha Potshangbam, by the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT), Cochin, with technical and technological support from ICAR.
Speaking at the inauguration, ICAR Imphal scientist Dr Pitambari, pointed out the need to utilise the facility not only to meet local demands but also to explore export opportunities, thereby boosting income for local fish farmers.

He assured that technical experts from ICAR would be available to provide support and guidance on operating the equipment efficiently.
Dr Pitambari also invited interested individuals to submit written applications for training on fish drying techniques and other related schemes.
Chairman of Bharathimana Fisherman Development Cooperative Limited, Dr Ramanando Khundrakpam, informed that training for operating the drying machine would be provided by CIFT.
He added that the machine would be accessible not only to members of the cooperative society but also to other fish farmers in the region.
The inauguration event also saw virtual participation of officials, including NFDB former GB member Umesh Pochapaan, NFDB North East Council officer in-charge Ashim Kumar Bora and ICAR CIFT Cochin principal scientist Dr Geeta Luxmi.
