Exams suspended due to teacher shortage

Imphal, July 28 2025:
Owing to shortage of teachers, Phoubakchao Government High School in Mayang Imphal AC suspended its examinations midway and closed its doors since July 26 .
The issue cropped up when two teachers of the school assigned as mathematics and science subject teachers but had never set foot in the school, were transferred away by a government order subsequently sparking protest by the students questioning the process to hold the examinations without the teachers.
In this regard, National People's Party (NPP) vice president Urikhibam Ramesh visited the school on Monday and found it closed.
Speaking to newspersons, Ramesh informed that Phoubakchao Government High School is the only high school located between Mayang Imphal and Khordak villages.
The school is supposed to have total teacher strength of 27 but only 15 teachers are present to teach the 450 enrolled students from Class I to X .
He continued that two teachers were transferred to the school by a government order.
However, before the teachers could even come to the school, they were transferred away by another order.
The school is currently holding its examinations but was suspended after the students protested against the shortage of the teachers.
Urging the government departments not to take the matter lightly, Ramesh said that education is an important sector of the society.
Thus, he urged the officials of the Education Department to take the matter seriously and despatch the required teachers at the earliest, so as to help the students become capable members of the society.
