Public discourse dissects impact of drugs on society

A public discourse on 'alarming impact of drug abuse on society', and crimes against women and children, was held on Sunday at the Khurai Heigrumakhong FUC Ground.
The discourse jointly organised by Gender and Social Development Coordinating Committee (GSDCC) and Khurai Konsam Leikai Gram Panchayat, was attended by FUC president Dr Ngangkham Ibotombi, Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup president Yumlembam Memma, Imphal East District Mission manager Naoshram Basanta, CADA general secretary Geetchandra Mangang, Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Right (MCPCR) legal advisor advocate Thiyam Rajkishore, ITA Women Multipurpose Cooperative Society president Yaikhom Surmala, Khurai Konsam Leikai GP chairperson Konsam Mery and social activist Hijam Rajkumar as presidium members.
Addressing the gathering; GSDCC advisor Nongthombam Radhamani expressed deep concern over the rising drug abuse among youth and students, who are considered the backbone of society.
She said that despite the government's "War on Drugs" campaign, the availability and use of drugs in the state continue to grow at an alarming rate.
She stated that the discourse was organised in recognition of the urgent need to discuss effective measures to curb the rising availability and use of drugs in the state.
