Woman arrested for gold theft

Imphal, July 17 2025:
Police on Thursday arrested a woman on the charge of stealing a gold ring from a jewellery shop at Wahengbam Leikai under Imphal police station.
The accused woman identified as Sakhina alias Apikcha (28), wife of Md Nejamuddin of Paobitek Mayai Leikai has been remanded to 15-day judicial custody by the Court of CJM, Imphal West.
As per the report placed before the Court by investigating officer (IO), an FIR was registered at Imphal police station around 11:40 pm Wednesday against a woman who entered the Prince Jewellers, Wahengbam Leikai around 3 pm.
The woman pretended to buy a gold ring, but instead stole a ring weighing 1 'San' and 5 'Chaning' worth Rs 40,000 .
Acting on the complaint, a police team visited the shop and checked footages of the CCTV camera installed in the shop and other nearby shops.
Subsequently, a joint team of Imphal police station and Wangoi police station raided the house of Md Nejamuddin around 8 am Thursday and found Sakhina at the house.
On interrogation, she confessed to stealing the gold ring, which police team subsequently recovered from her possession.
During further investigation, it came to light that she had involvement in multiple cases of similar crimes.
The Court after examining the 10's report ordered remand of Sakhina to 15-day judicial custody.
