CS introduces firefighting bikes

Chief secretary Prashant Kumar Singh on Friday flagged off 10 motor cycles equipped with modern fire-fighting tools and four water buzzers, and also inaugurated a newly constructed training cum conference hall of Manipur Fire Service.
The flagging-off ceremony of 10 motor cycles held at the Manipur Fire Service headquarters was also attended by commissioner (home) N Ashok Kumar, joint secretary (home) Dr M Veto and Manipur Fire Service director L Nabachandra.
Addressing the gathering, Prashant said addition of new and modern firefighting equipment will immensely help Manipur Fire Service in fighting fire emergencies.
The new firefighting tools and motorcycles will be handed over to fire sub-stations of Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Senapati, Moreh, Jiribam, Chandel, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Imphal, he announced, lauding the dedicated services of fire service personnel in saving lives and properties.
According to the chief secretary the government is taking up steps to improve roads in the periphery of Imphal town and is also currently undertaking a rigid pavement project for a stretch covering around 550 km.
The project, which is expected to be completed in two years' time, will significantly improve firefighting in narrow roads of Imphal town and its periphery areas, he added.
