CCpur police detain two in digital fraud case

Imphal, July 16 2025:
A case of digital fraud involving a fake GPay transaction has come to light in Churachandpur, prompting swift action by the district police, who have arrested two suspects.
As per a police report, on July 15, 2025, around 3 pm, Churachandpur police station received a written complaint from a shopkeeper at Gangte Veng, alleging that she was deceived by an unidentified man posing as a genuine GPay user.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred on July 10 around 4:30 pm when an unidentified male, dressed in a white T-shirt and black trousers, arrived at her shop on a black Bullet motorcycle without a registration plate.
The man requested Rs 4,000 in cash, claiming he would transfer the equivalent amount to her bank account via GPay.
As the shopkeeper only had Rs 3,000 on hand, she handed over the sum in good faith, trusting the man to complete the transfer.
In addition, the accused purchased two litres of petrol worth Rs 240.Using his mobile phone, the man pretended to initiate a transaction and showed the shopkeeper a fabricated screenshot indicating that Rs 3,250 had been transferred to her account - Rs 10 more than the agreed amount.
However, upon later checking her phone, the shopkeeper discovered that no such transaction had occurred, confirming she had been defrauded.
Following the report, a GD entry (No 17/CCP-PS/2025) was made at Churachandpur police station.
Acting on the complaint, ASI V Chinbiaklal, accompanied by a police party and assisted by SI Thianminboi Vaiphei, 2nd officer-in-charge of CCP-PS, launched an investigation under the supervision of senior officers.
The police team proceeded to S Kotlian village and detained two suspects for verification namely L Seiminlal Haokip (34), son of Seikhomang Haokip from P Laijang village, and his associate Lunkhomang Haokip (40), son of Thangjan-gam from Songjakhopi, both in Churachandpur district.
Upon verification, both suspects were formally arrested.
An FIR has been registered at Churachandpur police station.
Police suspect the accused may be involved in multiple such fraudulent activities targeting shopkeepers across Churachandpur town, as well as the Kangvai and S Kotlian areas.
Further investigation is currently underway.
