Imphal, December 14 2024:
The health of human beings is greatly impacted by the effects of the climate change, health services director Dr Chambo Gonmei has stated.
He made the statement as the chief guest at the inaugural function of a two-day All Manipur Medical Conference 'XL AMAMECON 2024' organised by Indian Medical Association (IMA) on the theme of "Health Impact by Climate Change: Act Now" , at the auditorium of IMA on Saturday.
Dr Chambo said that the conference was organised with the aim of spreading awareness amongst the masses with regard to the impact of climate change, especially on human health.
As such, there is a need to focus on the same, he urged.
Stating that planting trees can somewhat help alleviate some of the dangers by increasing the oxygen content in the atmosphere, Dr Chambo, however, said epidemics can occur suddenly and need to stay prepared.
IMA state branch president Dr RK Lenin said that the Association is trying its level best to improve the patient-doctor relationship and access to health care in remote areas.
There is still time to restore the environment to its natural state.
However, this job does not fall on the environment department alone, and also does not mean we should continue to endure the harsh environment.
It is the responsibility of all concerned to work together, he contended.
The inaugural function was attended by immediate past president Dr Jugindro Sorokhaibam, Reception Committee chairman Dr Simpson Sareo, CGP director Dr Shyamkumar Laishram, CWC member Dr A Vivekananda Singh and honorary state secretary Dr S Goutam as presidium members.
