Thoubal, August 06 2025:
A tree plantation drive was organised on Tuesday at Leitanthem Kanhai Junior High School, Thoubal Tomjing; by Zonal Education Office, Zone-III, Thoubal, in collaboration with the Thoubal district administration, Department of Education (S), Samagra Shiksha Manipur and Divisional Forest Office, Thoubal.
The initiative was part of the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam/Plant for Mother - 2.0" campaign under Samagra Shiksha, Manipur.
Speaking on the sidelines of the programme, Samagra Shiksha additional state project director (Elementary) Soraisam David Singh informed that the department is setting target of planting at least 70 saplings each in government and private schools across the state.
While a large portion of the target has already been met, the drive is facing challenges due to a shortage of saplings, disclosed the project director, while noting that the forest department is also making efforts to supply the required saplings.
He further informed that the plantation is being carried out using the Japanese Miyawaki method, which involves planting saplings in close proximity resembling dense forest.
Students along with their mothers are actively participating in the campaign.
Students from Leitanthem Kanhai Junior High School, Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School, Bright Foundation School, Anandapurna Higher Secondary School and others also took part in the drive.
