Imphal, February 28 2024:
Following the immediate intervention of Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) based on a complaint lodged to the commission, a 12-day old infant was reunited with her biological mother on Tuesday.
In a release, Commission chairperson Keisham Pradipkumar informed that the said infant got separated from her lactating mother, after the woman returned to her maternal home subsequent to dispute with her husband, a resident of Imphal West district.
The complainants included Women Action for Development (WAD) and elder brother of the infant's mother.
Considering the biological mother as the most competent natural care giver for such an infant, who is in desperate need of breastfeeding and other specific caring, MCPCR was of the opinion that immediate restoration of the infant to its biological mother is paramount for protecting the survival and development rights of the infant, the MCPCR chairman said.
Furthermore, he advised young couples not to take any drastic stance, including immediate separation or divorce, which may be detrimental to emotional well-being and wholesome development of their children.
