Governor-in-Council holds meeting, reviews Forensic Sciences directorate

Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, on Monday chaired the 'Governor-in-Council' meeting at the conference hall of Raj Bhavan, here.
The meeting attended by the chief secretary, secretary to governor, and administrative secretaries from various departments discussed several agendas of respective departments and underscored the government's commitment to enhancing coordination and ensuring the effective delivery of public services.
Earlier, the Governor also chaired a review meeting on the functioning of the Directorate of Forensic Sciences, Manipur/State Forensic Laboratory.
During the meeting, the commissioner (Home) gave a detailed presentation on recent developments, including the establishment of a mobile forensic unit, mobile forensic van, a new facility for forensic examination of expensive residue, and the development of a dedicated DNA analysis wing aimed at strengthening forensic capabilities in the region.
The Governor was also briefed on the current challenges faced by the directorate, particularly regarding manpower shortages.
He enquired about the status of pending cases and asked for expediting the same.
Officers from the Institute of Forensic Sciences for Training & Skilling (IFS-T&S), National Forensic Sciences University, Manipur Campus, Pangei, also made a detailed presentation outlining the key initiatives undertaken by the University.
They informed the Governor about the disadvantages faced due to the lack of major equipment and infrastructure.
On the academic front, they highlighted that PG diploma and diploma courses have been conducted in different disciplines under forensic sciences and investigation.
