Imphal, July 22 2025:
Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) will organise the first State-Level Kangleipak (Manipur) History Competition under the theme "Explore the history of Kangleipak (Manipur)" on August 24 at TG Higher Secondary School, Imphal.
Announcing the upcoming event at KSA's Khoyathong office on Monday, general secretary Sanjay Khulakpam said that the competition aims to promote better understanding of Manipur's history among students at a time when there is growing concern over distortion of historical facts.
He stated that students in the state currently lack proper understanding of their own history due to long neglect in the education system.
In this vacuum, he said, individuals with vested interests have begun twisting historical narratives to suit their agendas, misleading the public through articles, journals, and papers based on distorted claims.
He warned that the spread of such distorted accounts could undermine the region's true historical identity.
"There is a strong need to counter these pseudo intellectuals with facts, and that requires in-depth knowledge of history," he said.
Sanjay also said that the low rate of publishing scholarly works on the region's genuine history stems from a lack of nationalistic commitment among scholars.
"If not addressed, this could stir up ethnic nationalism and threaten the unity, integrity, and identity of Kangleipak (Manipur)," he added.
The competition will be held in three categories and syllabi: Class VII-VIII (1891-1947 CE), Class IX-X (1819-1947 CE), and Class XI-XII (33-1949 CE) .
