Tree plantation drive held at SEEDS Complex

Imphal, July 20 2025: In a concerted effort to foster a cleaner and greener environment in the State, the Directorate of Envi-ronment & Climate Change, Government of Manipur organised a mega tree plantation drive at Socio Economic and Environment Development Society (SEEDS) Complex, Sangaithel, Imphal.

The tree plantation drive was conducted in collaboration with Editors' Guild Manipur, SEEDS, 9 Sector Assam Rifles, 189 Battalion CRPF and Vensar Construction Company Limited.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of SEEDS, Editors' Guild Manipur, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU), representatives from CRPF and Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, Assam Rifles officials and local residents, creating a vibrant atmosphere of community engagement.

Among the distinguished attendees were Brigadier A Boral, 9 Sector Assam Rifles; Kunjarani Devi, Commandant, GC CRPF Langjing; HS Mourya, 2IC, 189 Bn CRPF; Md Munir Raja, General Manager, Vensar Construction Company Limited; Khogendra Khomdram, president, Editors' Guild Manipur and editor of The Sangai Express (Manipuri edition); and A Bhakta, president, AMWJU.

The event marked a symbolic return to the area after more than two years, underscoring efforts to restore both ecological balance and community harmony in the conflict-affected region.

About 500 tree saplings were planted across designated areas, reinforcing the commitment to restoring and preserving the natural environment.

The programme also featured informative talks highlighting the importance of trees in maintaining ecological balance and combating climate change.

The event not only promoted environmental stewardship but also fostered unity and a common sense of purpose among participants, galvanising efforts to safeguard nature for future generations.

The initiative underscored the collective responsibility of protecting and enriching the natural environment in Manipur.
