Centenary celebration of Liwachangning Baptist Church held

The two-day-long 100-year centenary celebration of Liwachangning Baptist Church (LBC), Chandel district under Monsang Naga Baptist Churches Association (MNBCA) concluded at church premises on Satuday.
The celebration, held under the theme 'Honouring His Faithfulness' was attended by Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC) general secre-tary'reverend K Losii Mao as speaker along with MNBCA executive secretary reverend Alani Shongsir, Centenary Celebration Planning Committee chairman Ng Gilbert, Liwachangning village chief Ng Roland, Chandel additional DC Md Firoz Khan, ex-MLA St Nunglung Victor, ex-ADC member Sh Manglem Monsang, religious leaders, village chiefs, village authority members, representative of CSOs and villagers from various villages.
The programme commenced with hoisting of flag by LBC ex-pastor Ts Warha on Friday.
On Saturday, MBC secretary reverend K Losii Mao unveiled a Centenary Celebration Monolith.
MN-BCA executive secretary reverend Alani Shongsir released a souvenir with K Losii Mao, MNBCA executive secretary reverend Roel Pheiliboy and Anal Naga Baptist Association executive secretary reverend Dr Huten Wilson Anal speaking on the occasion.
The event also saw choir singing by groups from various churches, cultural performance by students and youths and presentation of gifts.
Speaking at the gathering, Ng Gilbert recalled the advent of Christianity in the village that dates back to 1923.By then the village was known as Liwamachet, he said.
The celebration has been held to honour the elders for becoming Christians and leading the future generation towards a right path, he added.
Stating that celebration was held after the earlier church building was dismantled and the new building was inaugurated on December 8, Gilbert emphasised that this is symbol of our strong faith for Christianity.
