Imphal, August 03 2022:
Youth for Peace and Progress Manipur (YPPM) has urged for summoning Professor Amar Yumnam and Sadananda Sahu to the Assembly for clarification on their statements claiming that the total area of Manipur at the time of its merger to India was only 700 sqkm.
Addressing newspersons at Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday afternoon, YPPM co-convenor Jurist Khumancha denounced former VC Prof Amar Yumnam, who co-supervised on writing a thesis which tried to distort the history of the state, claiming that the total of Manipur at the time of its merger to India was only 700 sq km.
If Prof Yumnam had been a little considerate of the state and respected its history, he would have pushed for rectification or taken up action on this gross error in the thesis, as the co-supervisor.
However, he chooses to deny any knowledge of the same, stating that he was only a co-supervisor and has no responsibility in the matter, which is a cowardly act.
He seems to have no remorse on his part in showcasing a false history of Manipur to the world, Jurist said, while remarking that people are shocked with his irresponsible behaviour.
Jurist continued that Dr Sadananda Sahu does not have any academic honesty and is irresponsible.
YPPM had contacted Dr Sahu both on telephone and e-mail for providing proof and authentic documentary evidence that says that Manipur's total area at the time of merger was 700 sq km.
He (Sahu) assured of doing so but went silent as he did not have any proof and is no longer responding to calls on telephone or email.
Unfortunately, Brig Sushil Kumar Sharma who submitted and published the thesis is no more alive and as such, the responsibility for distorting Manipur's history lies with Prof Amar Yumnam and Dr Sadananda Sahu, with Prof Amar having the bigger responsibility for failing to detect and rectify the errors in the thesis, despite being a Manipuri himself.
Jurist then said that errors in the thesis are not distorting Manipur's history but challenging the unity and integrity of the state.
Thus, the matter should be taken up in the ongoing Assembly session, he remarked, while drawing the attention of the Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker and the MLAs to take up a resolution for summoning Prof Amar Yumnam and Dr Sadananda Sahu for clarification on the matter.
