Imphal, August 03 2022:
Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah has urged the chief minister to extend an invitation to the leaders of All Manipur Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) for talks so as to discuss the demands raised by the Union including tabling of the ADC Bill 2021 in the ongoing Assembly and see to the withdrawal of the protest being launched by the students' body over the same issue.
Drawing the attention of the Chief Minister during the zero hour of the ongoing Assembly session on Wednesday, Ram Muivah said that among the ATSUM leaders arrested on Tuesday, there was a leader named Chammaroi, who is not well.
He had reportedly been just discharged from hospital when he was arrested and kept in the lock-up, which could be bad for his health.
In accordance with ATSUM's demands for tabling the ADC Bill, the Bill was taken up in the House on Tuesday itself, indicating that the Union faced some miscommunication.
Thus, he urged the CM to invite the ATSUM leaders for talks as soon as possible.
Both sides could retreat, and see to the resolution of the issue, he said, while adding that all 20 hill MLAs will extend full support, keeping aside party differences.
Remarking that ATSUM's sudden bandh has affected peace and tranquillity in the state which had remained bandh/blockade free for quite some time now, the MLA again urged the CM to take note of the matter and ensure the withdrawal of the bandh.
